Sol Invicto, the genre-bending project led by producer/guitarist Richie Londres, with Stephen Carpenter (Deftones) and Eric Bobo (Cypress Hill), has announced the release of their long-awaited debut EP Loosely Aware, set for November 8, 2024. Along with the announcement, they’ve dropped their first official single, “The Obvious Play,” accompanied by a striking visualizer.
After years of experimentation, Sol Invicto is finally offering a glimpse of what’s to come with “The Obvious Play,” featuring guest vocals from Sean Plague of Plague to Pyres, a band signed to Londres and Carpenter’s independent label, Omyac Records. This EP marks their first official release since the exclusive 2017 double album Initium—a collection of demos and experimental tracks that were only available to members of their private fan club, Sol Invicto Comiti.
Loosely Aware showcases Sol Invicto’s signature mix of heavy, furious riffs, razor-sharp guitar leads, industrial sounds, and electronic elements, with Eric Bobo’s dynamic percussion driving the intensity. Dan Foord (Sikth) brings a raw, live energy on drums, signaling a fresh chapter for the band as they prepare to record a full-length metal album later this year.
Known for blending industrial beats, crushing guitar work, and Latin-infused percussion, Sol Invicto has carved out a unique space in experimental metal. Initially focusing on lo-fi industrial drum and bass, the band’s sound has evolved with Foord’s addition, giving their music a more live, visceral feel.
Loosely Aware was mixed by Adam “Nolly” Getgood (Periphery, Animals as Leaders) and mastered by Jaime Gomez Arellano (Ghost, Paradise Lost). The artwork was designed by Kwonny, adding a powerful visual component to the band’s highly anticipated debut.
