Fearless and Free: Hetfield’s M72 Mindset

During an appearance on “The Metallica Report,” James Hetfield discussed what he’s bringing from the “M72” world tour to the upcoming 2025 shows. He emphasized the band’s newfound confidence, fueled by the positive reception to their latest album, “72 Seasons.”

“We’re playing with a renewed energy and passion,” Hetfield said. “The fans have been incredible, and their enthusiasm has inspired us to push ourselves even further.”

He also discussed the band’s approach to mistakes on stage. “All mistakes are free,” he said. “It’s just a unique way of playing it that night.” This attitude, he believes, allows for a more authentic and enjoyable experience for both the band and the fans.

“When a song falls apart, and it could be devastating to other bands, for us, it’s just, ‘Okay. We fucked it up. Let’s start it again,'” Hetfield explained. “There’s a freedom up there that the fans allow, there’s a grace that they allow us to be human.”

Hetfield concluded by saying that he’s excited to bring this renewed energy and sense of freedom to the upcoming “M72” shows. “We’re going to give it our all, and we can’t wait to see you there,” he said.
