Promoting transparency, Marty Friedman, former Megadeth guitarist, appeared on the “Talk Louder” podcast to discuss his upcoming autobiography, “Dreaming Japanese,” due December 3rd. He promises to address unanswered questions about his career, from his early bands like Deuce and Hawaii to Megadeth and his current life in Japan.
“There’s a lot fans don’t know,” Friedman explained. “The book delves into everything, from the first band that launched my career to the intricacies of recording with Megadeth. People will be surprised by the detailed clarity, especially regarding my time with Megadeth. Back then, interviews were promotional, focusing on music and touring. This book dives deeper, revealing personal experiences I’ve never shared before.”
Friedman assures fans his story holds no negativity towards Megadeth. “I’m incredibly proud of what we accomplished,” he stated. “Megadeth was my entry into the music industry, and I’m eternally grateful. The book is honest, reflecting my perspective and how everything unfolded. Interestingly, I was completely sober during my Megadeth years. My wild days happened much earlier with Deuce. By the time I joined Megadeth, I embraced a straight-edge lifestyle well before the term even existed.”
He emphasized dispelling internet rumors. “I wouldn’t want anyone to think I have negative feelings towards that era,” he clarified. “Some of my favorite music was created then. The book meticulously details the creative process, how songs were written, recorded, and released. Megadeth had a unique approach to music-making, and I explore that in depth, sharing the impact it had on me.”
