Sabaton Has New Music ‘In The Works’

In a new interview with Radioactive MikeZ, host of the 96.7 KCAL-FM show “Wired In The Empire,” Sabaton frontman Joakim Brodén discussed the band’s progress on the follow-up to their 2022 album The War to End All Wars. He explained,

“Yeah, we’re always working on new material. After finishing an album, I think, ‘I don’t want to write music for a while.’ But then, three months later, there I am, writing again.” Joakim mentioned that sometimes inspiration strikes while on tour: “Maybe it’s a day off, there’s not much to do—so we grab our gear and crank out a song. It’s better than doing nothing.”

He confirmed that the band already has some material in the works and won’t be taking a break before diving into more writing.

Joakim also elaborated on how he feels once an album is completed. “For me, when an album is done, I hate it,” he admitted. “I’m not the only songwriter in the band, but I write most of the music, and I’m deeply involved with the lyrics and production. I spend months in the studio, either alone or with someone, getting the pre-productions ready, delivering them to the band to practice, and overseeing the recording with the producer. After a short break, I’m back for the mixing, and by then, I’m tired of the songs. All I do is look for problems—what’s wrong, what needs fixing, whether the levels or EQ are off. By the time the album is mastered, I’m sick of it. It usually takes me a year or two before I can listen to it again objectively.”
